deep overhangs were designed to keep the internal spaces cool using traditional a-type pitched roofs, while pergolas were introduced to lighten the large roof spans and create a hierarchy of spaces – from the indoors to a covered verandah, to a semi-covered pergola and eventually leading the outdoors. |
